India Blog Ban

The Reuters Newsblog notes in “India bans some blogs” that India is directing ISPs to ban access to specific blog hosts, including the popular blogspot.com.

A mass banning of this type is rather unexpected for a relatively open democracy like India. The reason given was “security”. The post says an Indian official said that “two pages” were blocked. One wonders whether this is some kind of bureaucratic snafu, akin to the German judge who ordered that Wikipedia be shut down when a single entry raised privacy concerns.
