AT&T Tilt (HTC Kaiser) vs. Verizon XV6800

We’ve been following Verizon’s continued delays in introducing their XV6800 smart phone, and berated them for missing the opportunity to leverage iPhone enthusiasm and outright hype into their own Windows Mobile 6 offering (see XV6800: Verizon Misses Opportunity.). Sure, the iPhone would have been a big seller either way, but lots of users aren’t going to leave the Windows environment and/or their preferred carrier. The XV6800, while not nearly as sleek as Apple’s iPhone, offers plenty of functionality by combining a slide-out QUERTY keyboard with Windows Mobile 6 and the broadband coverage of the Verizon network. Not only did Verizon miss the iPhone opportunity, it looks like their possible October 15 release date may come more than a month after AT&T introduces their new Tilt model, previously known as the HTC Kaiser. Both the Verizon X-6800 and the AT&T Tilt are made by HTC, and they are somewhat similar in form factor and function.

The most obvious difference between the models is that the Tilt angles the screen when the keyboard slides out, while the XV6800 keeps the two halves parallel. I tested a Verizon XV6700 for a couple of weeks, and can see how the tilted screen would be useful. If you are, say, reading while sitting at a table, the Tilt should be able to rest on the surface while presenting the screen at a viewable angle. I found myself juggling the XV6700 in this situation, leaning it on something to prop it up, etc. In addition, it appears that the Tilt offers a 3MP camera vs. 2MP on the XV6800.

I’ll do a more complete spec comparison and post it here - I had every intention of staying with Verizon when I upgraded phones, but AT&T might just Tilt me in their direction. :)

Okay, so now we’re looking at 10/15?
That’s a whole month away still! Dang.
Well, I’ve waited this long - what’s another 30 odd days?
If the only differences are the “tilt” feature and the 1MP in the camera, I can live with that. Do they stack up similarly in terms of memory/storage? Do they both accept SD/micro SD?
Thanks for your vigilence, Roger. Most appreciated.
