Verizon XV6800 - August Release

Verizon XV6800We’ve seen a lot of interest and commentary here about the long-delayed release of the Verizon XV6800, and now it appears that a release this month is likely. A leaked copy of the Verizon Product Roadmap was linked from a post at Brighthand by Ed Handley, Verizon Getting New High-End Windows Mobile Smartphone This Month?. This shows a mid-August release for business customers. The minimal specs for the phone in the image show that it is, “Upgradeable to EVDO Rev A.” and offers both embedded WiFi and Windows Mobile 6.

With all the conflicting information flying around, this looks like it might be the real thing. We’ll see. Verizon may have missed the boat on piggybacking on the iPod’s intro, but it would be an even bigger mistake to let the Kaiser get to market first.

If it’s going to be reseased mid-August for business customers, when will it be released for consumers?

Gee… all the comments I’ve heard from everyone is correct in my opinion. I’ve been waiting for months for the 6800 and held off from buying the IPhone (I’m a strong PC user). I’ve been with Verizon for 5 years and had good reception, but these delays in product introduction is cauing me to seek other carriers. I use to have Sprint 10 years ago and now they seem to be a great choice for my 6800. Anyway, if I don’t hear an official news flash and available of the 6800 next week, then Sprint…..Here I come! Then Verizon would have to wait another 5 years before I consider switching again.

Is there any chance in hell that this will actually be a world phone?! I love Verizon’s network in the States but want to travel with my phone and it’s a JOKE that the only world phone they currently offer is the blackberry. I’ve been using a 3-year-old cell phone and a FIVE year old iPaq…and I’m PRAYING that this is finally the device that allows me to combine the two. Otherwise, I will seriously consider giving up Verizon for AT&T.

I’VE TALKED WITH A VERIZON REPRESENTATIVE AND ASKED HER ABOUT THE XV6800…
I ASKED HER IF SHE KNEW WHEN IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE RELEASED…
SHE SAID SHE WASN’T SUPPOSED TO TELL ANYONE BUT SHE WAS GOING TO TELL ME…
WELL AS FOR SEPTEMBER THE NEW TREO WAS GOING TO BE RELEASED.. BUT AS THE XV6800 WE ARE NOT GOING TO SEE IT ANYTIME SOON.. THE XV6800 IS NOT GOING TO GET RELESED UNTIL BEFORE CHRISTMAS.. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT LATE OCTOBER LATE NOVEMBER… SHE WASN’T SURE OF THE MONTH BUT SHE WAS SURE THAT IT WAS A CHRISTMAS RELEASE…
YEAH SUCKS AS I AM WAITING FOR IT ASWELL SINCE MY XV6700 IS BROKEN…

The rep I spoke with said it was clearly marked on her sheet for 3rd quarter 2007.

I heard late November from a Verizon rep. It seems the reports are all over the board. Is Verizon destin to become part of the fraternity of market leaders who lost their edge and never gained it back because of slow and sloppy product offerings and advancements. It appears Verizon’s lack of viable PDA advancements and releases is simply their disregard for customer demands. They have until September 17th for me or it is “Bye Bye Verizon”!

I have spoken to Verizon in stores, on the phone and online and none of them seem to be able to say anything about it. I am looking into getting the sprint phone and maybe verizon will allow it to be activated under their network. It seems possible since verizon and sprint are both CDMA.

Dan, another option would be to buy an unlocked phone like the HTC TyTn II (aka Kaiser). This unit actually looks better than the AT&T Tilt version, which apparently lacks the front video cam. Of course, there’s a high price without the subsidy that comes from signing a two-year contract.

Rogerd,

The TyTN II would not work on Verizon’s network, unlocked or not. Is that correct?

Comment by Bryan 09.17.07 @ 9:50 am

You are right, Verizon and Sprint are not GSM, Bryan. Before buying any phone, I’d get assurances from the vendor that it’s compatible with the network you want to use it on, and also check with the wireless provider. And, I’d get assurances of hardware returnability and service cancellability just in case things don’t work out as expected.

Comment by rogerd 09.17.07 @ 3:35 pm

JUST TO LET YOU KNOW.. YOU CAN’T BUY THE PHONE ITSELF.. YOU “HAVE” TO GET IT CONNECTED BY SPRINT.. I’VE TRIED IT ALREADY.. THE ONLY WAY TO BUY IT ITS BY A GIFT CARD. YOU PUT THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THE PHONE COSTS.. BUT OTHER THAN THAT YOU CAN’T BUY THE PHONE ITSELF.. ALL YOU CAN DO IS WAIT.. NOVEVEMBER IS NOT THAT FAR..

This is ludicrous. Why would Verizon risk losing so many customers by with-holding a smartphone every other carrier already sells? We all know it won’t the next Iphone. The xv6800 should have been released long ago. Verizon may be losing me as well. What a shame.

Comment by Joseph 09.19.07 @ 7:17 pm

The Verizon wireless website now is saying that the xv6700 is “out of stock”… maybe that’s a good thing…

Comment by TETOMAN 10.05.07 @ 2:41 pm

I pretty much gave up on the 6800. Verizon is now offering the Samsung I760 - all the features of the 6800 plus some - and Mobil OS ver 6. The voyager looks nice, but it doesnt have the Microsoft Mobile OS on it. And I got a heck of a price - $399 online, paid $150 at the Verizon store.. we’ll see how it works

Comment by Bob 10.30.07 @ 2:10 pm

WELL THE XV6800 IS COMING OUT REALLY SOON.. YOU CAN GO TO VERIZON AND GET THEIR MAGZINE.. THEY HAVE IT THERE ALREADY.. BUT THERE IS A LIL PROBLEM… THE PHONE IS BLUE.. SUCK… ALL I USED THE XV6700 WAS THE INTERNET AND THE TXTN.. SO IM JUST GONNA GET THE VOYAGER.. IT HAS A FULL WEB BROWSER ITS ONLY 15 BUCKS A MONTH.. THAT 35 LESS..

Comment by TETOMAN 11.07.07 @ 8:09 pm

I was speaking with Verizon tech support & he indicated the 6800 will be out in mid-Dec.

Comment by Sandra 11.16.07 @ 8:31 pm

Did he say what year?? ………

Comment by Bob 11.26.07 @ 11:58 am

I DONT KNOW IF YOU GUYS NOTICED BUT THE PHONE HAS BEEN OUT FOR ABOUT A WEEK ALREADY.. SO STOP COMPLAINING IF YOU HAVENT CHECKED

Comment by TETOMAN 11.29.07 @ 1:42 am

Gimme a break people. You are going to leave Verizon because the release date of the phone. Verizon unlike some other carriers thoroughly test their phones before releasing. Sprint who has some of the worst service always seem to have the latest and greatest phone, but crap for service. Unless the Sprint coverage area is for ‘your’ paticular area, then it would be ridiculous to go to them just because of the phone. Phone = nothing if theres no service.
